  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050Ti
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200MHz memory
  • Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD
  • Screen size: 17.3″ Full HD IPS Display

Acer products never disappointed me, the Acer Nitro 5 has nail-biting technology under its hood and massive storage space to accommodate all the precious data I had, and purchasing this laptop has been the best decision of my life.

Lyndsie Jones, Senior Content Writer iLaptopWorld and Tech Enthusiast

In the life of a gaming enthusiast, there shouldn’t be any compromise when it comes to speed, and the Nitro 5 by Acer stands out because of its state-of-the-art hardware specifications and its HD display’s incredible refresh rate.

As the 17.3-inch Full HD IPS display panel sports nano edge bezels, the dazzling 144Hz refresh rate will amaze you with its super smooth video games, making it the perfect setup for competitive gamers who like to enjoy silky smooth video games.

With bigger price tags, comes premium speculations, under the hood this beast sports the latest 11th generation, Intel Core i7-11800H which has jaw-dropping clocking speeds of 4.8Ghz to handle all data coming directly from the Dedicated Nvidia Geforce RTX 3050 TI that is designed for hardcore gaming in mind.

Since the increasing demand for next-gen gaming, the HD texture has rendered our tiny hard drives inadequate to house all the games at once, but fret not, because the Acer Nitro 5 has a massive 1TB NVME SSD that is not only sufficient to hold all your precious data but its Gen3 speeds will ensure you get blazing fast read and write speeds which are complemented by a lofty 16GB DDR4 Ram that has 3200mhz frequency.

All these heavy-duty arsenals will leave any gaming device aching for a decent cooling solution, but that is not the case here, the Acer CoolBoost technology will splash away any unnecessary heat from its dual exhaust ports to prevent critical hardware damage or performance throttling.

Mashing keys and parrying the oncoming attacks in For Honor is never been so satisfying for me, the keyboard delivers a next-level experience and doesn’t feel clunky, although it doesn’t match an external mechanical keyboard feel, you can still expect a very tactile response. Moreover, the gaming setup has breathtaking Cherry red keyboard backlighting which gives off hardcore gamer vibes.

Moreover, if you want to monitor your laptop temperature or want to tweak the cooling system, you can use the NitroSense key which will let you customize the settings, giving you complete liberty over your gaming laptop.

It also has next-Gen super speedy HDMI 2.0 ports which you can use to connect to bigger screens to fully enjoy the benefit of DLSS 2.0 AI Supersampling. Moreover, for wireless connectivity, the Killer WI-FI 6 ensures you don’t face any input lags while keeping the pings to a bare minimum.

The downside is the lithium-ion cells which struggle to provide runtimes of only 4 hours, which drastically cut down the portability.

However, it still produces passable results for a gaming laptop with its next-generation hardware specs.

Strength
  • Glamourous design
  • Beautiful massive screen with a huge refresh rate
  • WI-FI 6 support
Weakness
  • 1 zone keyboard backlighting
  • Bulky

2. ASUS ROG Strix G15 – Gaming Laptop Under $1100

Editor’s Choice
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 4GB GDDR6 with ROG Boost up to 1840MHz at 80W
  • AMD Ryzen 7 4800H Processor
  • 144Hz 15.6” Full HD 1920×1080 IPS-Type Display
  • 8GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM
  • 512GB PCIe SSD
  • ROG Intelligent Cooling thermal system

The Asus ROG Strix is one of the most charming laptops I had in my lifetime, it is no doubt reasonably priced and makes me look trendy among my peers because of the fact how stylish its overall design is.

Michael Johnson, Senior Content Writer iLaptopWorld

Clutching on your cash is no longer a problem because the ASUS ROG Strix G15 can surely be yours if you are looking for a gaming beast under $1200.

Personally, I love my gaming free from all sorts of input lags, which means I despise 60hz locked refresh rates. The ASUS ROG Strix G15 solves my problem for gaming through its 15.6 inches display with a buttery smooth refresh rate up to 144hz.

The 1920×1080 IPS is surely a delight while watching movies with it and the bezels are surely a plus because they are so thin I can barely spot it, no exaggerations!

The inclusion of the newer lineup from the Nvidia Geforce RTX 3050 feels refreshing because I can bask into ray-traced games like never before. There is even a special feature called ROG Boost which pushes the frequency up to a whooping 1840mhz, so even with such an entry-level dedicated graphics card, I don’t feel lagged behind in my video games, literally and metaphorically.

Nothing says computational power like AMD Ryzen 7 4800H does which has 8 cores and 16 threads, leaving plenty of room for multitasking and other hardware-intensive tasks like video editing and Twitch Streaming

The only deal-breaker is the 8GB DDR4 Memory RAM capacity but hey, that’s all the goodies you can get under one roof at such a price point. As a silver lining, I feel like the 512GB SSD is there which is more than enough to compensate for any flaws this bad boy may have.

While using the keyboard, I felt like I couldn’t use this laptop enough because of how good it felt while typing on it. The keypress felt spot-on and overall well balanced and the RGB aesthetics feel extremely refreshing.

There is hiding when it comes to heat signatures rising pretty quick while using this laptop, which is why Republic Of gamers has strapped in their new thermal Grizzly compound to cool off any unnecessary heat you may face during your action-packed gaming hours.

Last but not the least, the laptop has all sides surrounded by super speedy USB 3.2 Type C as well as USB 3.1 ports so you can connect your external devices with ease.

You can even hook it to a physical display through the HDMI 2.0b jack to get a taste of 4k resolution in the comfort of your home.

Looking at its features, I believe this laptop is the perfect fit for the list of gaming laptops under 1200.

Strength
  • Top Tier display quality
  • Splendid keyboard design
  • Flawless hardware specifications
  • Unique Cooling Technology
Weakness
  • Lack Thunderbolt technology

3. Acer Predator Helios 300 – Best Under Budget

Runner up
  • Processor: Intel i7-11800H
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 GPU
  • Display: 15.6″ Full HD 144Hz 3ms IPS Display
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4
  • SSD: 512GB SSD

  • Keyboard: RGB

The display quality of this laptop is finger-licking good and I am not even exaggerating, the 144hz refresh rate had me completely captivated and bewitched because of how smooth and buttery my games felt.

John, Tech Nerd and Reviewer

Still in search of a gaming laptop under 1200? Well, I have the Acer Predator on my list.

A laptop with truly delicious aesthetics that will leave you asking for more, the Acer Predator has Aces up its sleeve which I cannot emphasize enough in this review.

With just a 3ms delay time, the 15.6 inches display works wonders while you play your games at a 144hz refresh rate and once you try it, it is literally impossible to go back to a 60hz locked refresh rate screen.

Some might say, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 is an entry-level Graphics card but I refuse to say otherwise! Playing newer titles like Call of Duty Vanguard and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is buttery smooth and there is literally no bottleneck in the benchmarks, all credits due to the newest Intel i7-11800H through its 8 cores and 16 threads.

My needs felt deeply fulfilled with the 16GB DDR4 memory RAM capacity and there were no lags while using programs like discord and playing high-end games and having the best time of my life.

And the best part is, if by any chance the 512GB SSD isn’t sufficient for your larger files and other important data, you can simply upgrade it because this laptop comes with a future-proofing option for both RAM and SSD, Marvelous!

Whether you are a fan of wired gaming or a wireless one, you won’t be disappointed in either of those while using this laptop because it is armed with Intel Killer DoubleShot Pro with an Ethernet E2600 jack that keeps the packet loss and lag spikes at bay.

Moreover, the WIFI 6 technology will keep those pings at acceptable levels at all possible times, talk about a steal deal!

The overall design and price to value ratio are simply splendid, especially looking at the world’s most gorgeous keyboard that I have ever laid my eyes on.

Strength
  • Include WIFI 6
  • 144hz Refresh Rate Display
  • Cutting edge hardware specifications
Weakness
  • Questionable Customer service

4. Lenovo Legion 5 – Best Midrange Gaming Laptop Under 1200

Enthusiast Pick
Lenovo Legion 5 15 Gaming Laptop, 15.6
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4 RAM
  • Storage: 512GB NVMe SSD
  • Screen size: 15.6″ FHD (1920 x 1080)
  • Ports: WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C, 4 USB, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, RJ45 Ethernet
  • Dimension specification: ‎14.27 x 10.26 x 0.89 inches
  • Weight: 5.29 pounds

“Wow” was my reaction when I held this laptop in my hands, the sturdy strong chassis, fully customizable keyboard, and the AMD technology rendered me spellbind as each and every aspect of this laptop is screaming premium quality and it is very hard not to keep things free from bias.

Its enthralling fast 15.6-inch display offers a full HD experience and watching movies on the 1920 x 1080p resolution gives off a splendid feel to the eyes of viewers.

What makes it so special is the fact that the screen has 100% sRGB output which is finely tuned by Dolby visions. Moreover, the 144hz refresh rate minimizes blurring in competitive video games while turning real fast or performing flick shots.

The 8 Core processor of Ryzen 7 4800H can handle multitasking Swifty with its lightning-fast processing. So you can play and stream on Facebook at the same time. Since streaming and gaming is CPU intensive, you can be assured that the Lenovo Legion 5 can handle it with ease with super snappy processing speeds combined with a dedicated 16 series Nvidia GTX 1660 ti which has a whopping 6GB GDDR6 VRAM so that you can play modern games at the highest settings.

To minimize the stutters and frame rate drops, a 16GB DDR4 is necessary since most games nowadays have high requirements for RAM.

Moreover, the laptop has a massive 512GB SSD NVME storage capacity so that you can keep all your files, operating system, and games for faster transfer rates and minimal boot times.

In addition to this, the laptop has a unique feature known as Legion Coldfront 2.0, which is basically a heat dispersion system that significantly reduces the risk of your laptop wearing out early.

It is worth mentioning that the laptop performance is enhanced with a unique feature called Dual Burn support, which ensures that neither the GPU nor the CPU is bottlenecked and uses both equally without compromising the computational power of the laptop.

Made to survive, the keyboard is sturdy and has a premium finish. The per Key RGB setup lets you customize each and every key with the click of a button which is highly convenient.

The keys have anti-ghosting technology and come with a 1.5mm travel time giving off a tactile feel.

The battle-ready gaming beast houses USB ports ranging from USB Gen 3.1, USB type C, HDMI ports, as well as a super speedy power jack that charges the lithium batteries in no time.

The power department is a little bit flawed with shorter battery life, as it can only produce runtimes up to 5 hours while having the WIFI turned on and screen brightness to 50%. Needless to say, I have seen better gaming setups with better runtimes and this one doesn’t impress me as much but still given its price point it’s one potent gaming beauty.

Without any doubt, this is one of the best gaming laptops under 1200 I’ve used so far.

Strength
  • Beautiful keyboard layout
  • Neat and nifty design
  • Plenty of ports to choose from
Weakness
  • No Thunderbolt 3 port

5. ASUS TUF Gaming – Runner Up

Gaming Beast
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB GDDR6 with ROG Boost
  • Processor: 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 4800H Processor 45W
  • Display: 15.6″ 144Hz Full HD IPS-Type Display

  • Design: Easy Upgrade Design

Drop it, punch it, rock it, you could do whatever you want it won’t break due to the military-grade materials that it is designed from.

Look, I understand the price point isn’t anywhere near $1200 dollars, however, just a pinch of additional cash won’t hurt you given how sleek and stylish the overall design is.

Laying eyes on the 15.6-inch screen is surely a pleasant experience I have had and let me tell you I have used plenty of laptops in my life. Furthermore, as icing on the cake, it also has a 144hz refresh rate, so you can experience your action-packed games like Valorant and Apex Legends like you haven’t had before.

Coming to the hardware aspect, the internals provides solid performance through its dedicated Nvidia Geforce 1660 Ti graphics card which is a mid-tier GPU in the 16 series and provides splendid output through lofty frames.

However, if games aren’t your thing, consider this laptop perfect for being an allrounder contender because it is armed with a hexacore CPU, AMD Ryzen 4800H which is definitely one of the top-tier processors known in the market.

Definitely, not a fan of the single zoned yellowish keyboard backlit, however, the design and spacing of the keyboard are simply astounding and praiseworthy and feel just right.

If you fancy an older modem at your home, you won’t be having any sort of lagging issues because this laptop ships out with WIFI 5 right off the bat and provides 8.7 hours of battery life while light browsing and drifting through documents and files.

Last but not the least, it even has a self-cleaning system, so if you have a busy schedule and don’t have spare time to clean this laptop yourself, don’t worry, it will take care of itself, saving precious time.

Strength
  • Sturdy and stylish
  • Decent battery life

Weakness
  • The keyboard doesn’t have RGB

6. MSI Stealth 15M – Powerful Machine

Also Consider
  • Visual Performance: The 15.6” 144hz display
  • Redefined Power: The 11th Gen. Intel Core i7 processor
  • Supercharged Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
  • On the Go Gaming: Designed to be thin and light for gamers
  • Cool and Powerful: MSI’s exclusive Cooler Boost Technology
  • RAM: 16GB
  • SSD: 512GB SSD

A device with all sorts of utility ranging from thunderbolt ports to WIFI 6, the cutting edge attributes would make you feel like Batman while using the MSI Stealth 15M.

Placing your hand on the Carbon Grey chassis feels extremely soothing, the finish of the build is perfect for anyone looking for a laptop to match their sober personality.

The visuals are no doubt vibrant and while viewing images and videos on the 15.6 inches display I sense of clarity is no doubt visibly present which you cannot ignore, as an added bonus, the 144hz refresh rate works wonders to prevent screen tearing.

The laptop is slick, compact, and extremely thin making it very portable for carrying around and can be considered a perfect choice for individuals that travel a lot.

And despite the slim design, it still has daring hardware specifications such as a dedicated Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 which can play almost all the newer titles that you throw at it with its 12GB VRAM bandwidth.

Now, if you look at the processor it isn’t shying either because the laptop is jam-packed with 11th gen Intel Core i7-11375H with quad cores and octa threads which makes multitasking seamless.

Moreover, the 16GB RAM capacity is pretty sufficient for anyone that wants to multitask and even run rigorous computational tasks without feeling congested with lags.

All in all, the price tag may be a tad bit higher than $1200, but wait till you hear about the connectivity aspect of this bad boy because you would be getting a WIFI 6 and Thunderbolt 4 interface which is a combination you wouldn’t see elsewhere.

To sum it up, with such attributes, this laptop is reasonably priced and will surely fulfill your requirements if you are looking for a high-end laptop because it did for me!

Strength
  • WIFI 6 Support
  • Includes Thunderbolt 4 Port
  • Stylish Design
  • Latest Hardware specifications
Weakness
  • Overheating issues

7. MSI GF65 – Enthusiast Pick

Extreme Performance
  • Ray-Tracing: The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
  • Powered Up: The 10th Gen. Intel Core i7 processor
  • Smooth Display: The 15.6” 144Hz display
  • High-Speed Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi 6 features 802.11ax standards
  • Play Cool: Latest Cooler Boost 5

The list is incomplete without incorporating such an Infamous brand, the MSI GF65 is no short of utilities and cutting edge hardware specifications.

The visuals of the 15.6 inches display are amazing and flawless and the bezels aren’t too thick to be noticed while watching movies on it. There is a 144hz refresh rate feature that you can tweak in the windows display configuration to give you an edge in your gaming.

The hardware isn’t too shabby either, with the GF65, you can get a taste of ray tracing with the Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 with 12GB VRAM that works in conjunction with the 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10750H which is pretty snappy considering you could put those Hexa core to a good multitasking use.

Having the 16GB RAM capacity on the laptop isn’t a bad choice either, however, I would have loved there were upgrading options so I could have extra RAM in the future.

Another feature that sets apart the MSI GF65 is the fact that it comes with a WIFI 6 right off the bat, which provides immaculate speeds while you are gaming with your buddies, an impeccable experience nonetheless!

You can use the MSI proprietary software to tweak some configurations and get extreme level performance as well as fiddle with your fans to keep your hardware chilled at all times through the cooler boost 5 feature.

The keyboard has matte black keys and travel time is very well balanced and doesn’t feel bland at all, however, there is only blood-red backlighting, so if you are a fan of RGB keyboards, you might be a little disappointed.

In terms of connectivity, there is a single HDMI port that lets you hook your laptop to an external display for a 4k 60hz locked projection which is a lovely trick to spice up your weekends.

Either end of the laptop is cluttered with useful and snappy ports like 2 x Type C and 2 x Type A 3.2 Gen which is pretty handy considering you would be connecting your gaming peripherals, obviously.

Strength
  • Phenomenal hardware specifications
  • Extraordinary design quality
  • MSI Dragon Center provides plenty of Configurations
Weakness
  • Horrendous technical support

8. HP Pavilion 16 – Budget Laptop

Budget Pick
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-10300H 2.5GHz
  • Graphics card:  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660TI with 6GB VRAM
  • RAM: 8GB DDR4
  • Storage: 512GB SSD
  • Screen size: 16.1-inch diagonal FHD, 144 Hz
  • Ports: 2x USB 3.0 Type A, 1x USB 3.0 Type C , 1x HDMI
  • Dimension specification: ‎‎14.57 x 10.33 x 0.93 inches
  • Weight: 5.06 pounds

Slick and stylish design, crisp B&O tuned audio with dual array digital microphone technology, the HP Pavillion 16.1 is one of its kind when it comes to a gaming laptop.

Although it has an odd display dimension of 16.1 inches, the Full HD feels huge while watching movies on it. The WLED backlighting helps a ton when playing games on it because it delivers a true to life colors without unusual fade-outs while sitting at odd angles.

Personally, gaming on 60hz feels so dull and laggy and after trying the 144hz refresh rate of this laptop I would never go for lower refresh rate screens. The HD display has an anti-glare coating that prevents reflections and gives off a matte look that looks extremely sober. Moreover, the screen has a 300nits brightness and is calibrated at 72% NTSC to provide an array of accurate color palettes.

In terms of performance, the laptop is armed to the teeth with 10th generation Intel Core i5-10300H which has a base clock 2.5Ghz and also supports multithreading.

Moreover, if you want to play AAA games like Metro Exodus, PUBG, Call of duty modern warfare, the dedicated Nvidia Geforce GTX  1660 TI can handle them at medium to high settings with Ray tracing capabilities turned off, obviously.

This beauty is very versatile since it comes with a dual-channel option that permits you to increase the memory RAM capacity of the system. However, the kit comes with only 8GB of DDR4 memory so upgrading it firsthand is a smart move.

As with the previous product, this one, too, has 512GB of NVMe SSD storage, but you also get 32GB of Intel Optane memory for faster boot times for your operating system.

The Keyboard is very power conservative as you can turn off the backlighting to save some precious battery juice. Although it has a single zone Green backlighting and there is no liberty to customize the colors.

Three-cell lithium polymer batteries are amazing in their ability to provide up to seven hours of battery life when the WIFI is on.

In contrast, you need to be aware of the fact that you won’t be able to reach the same levels of runtime when you’re doing heavy gaming tasks.

Strength
  • Neat keyboard layout
  • Decent battery life
  • Superb hardware
  • Reasonably priced

Weakness
  •  Lacks WI-FI 6 support

9. Lenovo IdeaPad L340

Affordable Pick
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-9300H Processor
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 with 4GB VRAM
  • RAM: 8GB DDR4 RAM SODIMM
  • Storage: 512 GB NVME SSD

  • Dimension specification: ‎14.3″ x 10.0″ x 0.9″ 363 mm x 254.6 mm x 22.9 mm
  • Weight: 4.8 lbs

Another best gaming laptop under 1200 on our list is from the arena of Lenovo.

There is no doubt that Lenovo is one of the best laptop brands in 2022. The fifth one on my list is again from the Lenovo arena, one of the best gaming laptops under 1200 I’ve ever experienced. Bring the gamers out of yourself with the Lenovo IdeaPad L340 which has phenomenal hardware speculations at a decent price range. The quality of the laptop screams premium grading while the blue backlighting gives off casual gamer vibes

Its superiority is unmatched while using the 15.6inch screen and playing games like Doom Eternal felt very realistic and visually immersive. The colors were highly accurate and true to life without oversaturation, which is very visible on many laptops with cheap displays I have used in the past.

Like MSI GF63, this one also has the same features in terms of hardware, such as Nvidia GTX 1650 and a decent Intel Core i5-9300H as a processor, however, the only upper hand over the previous product is the lofty 512GB SSD which is lightning fast than a traditional hard drive.

It is usually hard to find such premium grade keyboard design at such price ranges, however, this one shocked me as the keys felt very responsive and had a very balanced travel time for a gamer laptop.

Moreover, the soothing blue touch of backlighting has a calming sensation written all over it.

For connectivity, the laptop has USB type C, 2 x USB Type-A, and the latest HDMI 2.0 port for media connectivity. However, it lacks an SD card reader and Thunderbolt 3 which is a massive letdown.

There is little to no portability on this laptop and you might as well call I a desktop since the battery runtime is abysmal and provides power for only 2 hours which is a majority disappointing and you want to carry the charging adapter with you all the time.

Strength
  • Reasonably priced
  • Herculean SSD storage
  • Very lightweight
Weakness
  • Horrendous battery

Frequently Asked Questions – Best $1200 Gaming Laptops

Here are some of the faqs that I normally receive in comments and through my email from various gamers.

What Are the Ideal Specs for a gaming laptop under 1200?

For today’s day and age, to meet system requirements for newer gaming titles like CyberPunk 2077, Dying light 2, Forza Horizon 5, and Halo infinite, a laptop with a price tag under $1200 must-have specifications like Ray Tracing Graphics card from newer Generation lineup as well 6 cores or higher CPU, the necessity for higher core count CPU is to prevent your laptop from getting bottlenecked and multitask easily. You would also be needing memory RAM ranging from 16-32GB DDR4. Last but not least since these games require massive storage capacity, at least 500-1TB GB SSD is highly recommended.

Is Ryzen 7 better than i7?

Not that I am implying that intel Core i7 is anywhere near inferior, however, when it comes to core and threads, AMD Ryzen 7 surely takes the lead with 8 cores and 16 threads on their new generation processor while the Intel Core i7 relies more on the power efficiency for a laptop having lesser cores in their older generation of their processors. However, their 10th generation has almost the same core count as their AMD counterpart, so it all comes down to preferences and the budget you are rocking.

Is i5 good for gaming?

Being the middle child in the Intel Processor lineup, Core i5 are no doubt one of the potent processors in the market, they have ample cores to withstand and compute graphical data to quench your gaming thirst, especially if you are heading to buy the newer 12th generation CPUs which excels greatly in the gaming field and are perfect in terms of price to value ratio.

Final Take
