Finding the best gaming laptop under $900 may seem a bit too unrealistic, especially when it comes to performance, but things aren’t gloomy at all. At this price range, you can pretty much get a laptop worth every penny. We’re talking about units packing the performances of 1660Ti, 3050Ti, or 2060RTX.
In a Hurry? Have a Look at my Top Picks:
These can get you to frame rates of 100 or more than that. To be honest, this should help you play the likes of Red Redemption in a high setting. Obviously, you should shoot for the stars and get the likes of 2070TX or even more. But that wouldn’t increase the frame rates to abnormal levels. So, why pay more when you can still enjoy your Minecraft or Witcher 3 under 900?

Now let’s dig deep into all of them and discuss their features, specs, and how these 900 dollar gaming laptops help you in your gaming.
The Acer Nitro 5 Core i5 10300H Gaming Laptop is God-sent for mid-to-lower and high-range laptop users. It packs the performance of a 10300H processor and a GPU rendering of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050. You should expect 100+ frame rates and enjoy an award-winning overall performance.
That and the ability to upgrade it later should justify why I called it God sent.
Taking a deeper dive into the award-winning performance, its multi-tasking is out of this world. Play Dungeons with your favorite character and expect no lag at all. Definitely, the two graphics cards are to be commended for this. However, make sure that you tweak your settings to get the best card working.
Don’t worry about the heat produced as this machine has impressive heat management. Two fans are installed to work simultaneously or independently, depending on your choice. The chassis of the laptop itself is structured to get rid of the heat. Maybe that’s why the fans don’t go haywire?
The keyword worked great for me. The keys are spaced well but I do prefer more “clicky” keyboards. One thing I’d like to mention here is that you can turn off the auto backlight turnoff from the Nitrosense app on the laptop. You’d want to do it because the light goes off after 30 seconds or so. It can become annoying when you’re struggling to find the keys to bring it to life.
Besides these, what I liked was how sturdy it was. The plastic really doesn’t feel like plastic. You get the “premium look and feel” with this one. Do note that you’d have to take off the back panel completely before upgrading things. Not having dedicated access chambers is a bummer of course.
Those were things to like. What I hated was its audio quality, how heavy it is, its small battery life, and of course, the insensitive touchpad. I guess you can make up for these shortcomings in its price if you see the performance.
In the second place, I have the ASUS Tuf, which is another best gaming laptop under $900 in 2022. The Core i5-10300H ASUS TUF Gaming F17 is another addition to this list of mid-range powerful laptops. For those who can neglect a mediocre battery and go with its prowess instead, this laptop is nothing short of a miracle.
The stock specs you get are 8GB DDR4 ram, 512 GB SSD, RGB keyboard, a whopping 17” IPS display, and its powerhouse – the GeForce GTX 1650 Ti. If that’s not magic to you, then you can create your own by upgrading the system.
Just under the hood, there’s a slot for an additional SSD, RAM, and a second M.2 NVMe drive.
Talking about its gaming performance, which is the main deal, you can run games like CS: GO in full setting. Even the games like Fallout 76 run at a commendable 48fps. While having more fps at that and the likes of Gears 5 would have been better, but for some unknown reason, their fps are capped.
The sound of the laptop is nothing extraordinary. Obviously, at this price range, you shouldn’t expect surround sound quality. But two separate vibration-isolated speakers do their job decently.
Its RGB keyboard is responsive. However, I found the keys to stick here and there. My preference is always a keyboard with low key height but this one wasn’t a deal-breaker too.
The laptop’s power brick does get heated when you’ve jacked it to full performance. Other than that, thanks to its brilliant cooling mechanisms consisting of a Heatpipe and heatsink to the left, ASUS TUF Gaming F17 remains relatively cool. It even sucks air from the keyboard to keep your fingers cool.
All in all, the laptop is worth every penny in this price range. However, despite its better side, keep in mind that you’d have to plug in to play. That’s because of the ridiculous battery.
The Lenovo Ideapad L340 Laptop is yet another beast with 1650 as its heart. So, you can expect fluid gaming at the highest setting. However, like everything that is brilliant in its own right, there are some caveats to look for.
Let’s talk about the good things first:
The design of the laptop is almost futuristic with its blue-lit keyboard, slim stature, and a solid chrome body that means business. I loved the lightness of its design – minimalistic yet daringly hot.
Inside that hot body, you get a 9th Gen Core i5 – 9300 HF that handles multitasking as you want it to. Work on multiple spreadsheets, open a gazillion chrome tabs, all the while streaming music on Spotify, the machine would say nothing to indicate its frustration.
The speakers are decent and loud but not premium enough to be a head-turner. On a day where you don’t have access to your speakers, the intact ones would do great to serve you.
Speaking about its gaming performance, Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V, and Grounded run effortlessly on max settings. But there lies a caveat. Once you tune up its performance for this type of gaming, it starts making noise. The fans go haywire as the machine preps for taking the load.
However, I think this is just a small incongruence that can be dealt with. I mean if you keep the performance to 85%, the fans wouldn’t lose their mind. You can even keep a cooling pad underneath if you need to. I didn’t.
The other two shortcomings of this laptop are the battery and its weight. You get almost 4 to 5 hours of juice but during gaming, you might wanna keep it plugged.
So far so good, the Lenovo L340 has promise for gamers, graphic designers, and more when it comes to multitasking and running graphic-intensive programs. In last, I’d say the L340 is one of my favorite laptops under a $900 budget.
HP Pavilion Gaming 15 – Best Budget Gaming Laptop Under 900
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 GPU
- AMD Ryzen 5 4600H Processor
- 512 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD
- 8 GB DDR4-3200 MHz SDRAM
- 4.37 pounds
- Full-size, Island-style, Acid Green Backlit Keyboard
- Up to 12 hours and 30 minutes of battery
- 15.6-inch diagonal Full HD IPS WLED-backlit display
The HP Pavilion Gaming laptop is a standard benchmark from HP for those who do not care nor have time for sophisticated upgrades. I call it standard because you’ll have to work with what it offers – an 8GB RAM, 512 GB M.2 SSD, and the usual 1650 graphics card.
Not that these specs make the gaming experience mediocre because let’s be honest, the 4GB GTX GeForce 1650 does it work. The graphics come out to be better than Xbox One with good frame rates like the ones we talked about above. It runs popular games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider at AAA settings and I’m sure it’ll pretty much handle future games as well.
Couple that to its blazing fast processing with the help of an AMD Ryzen processor that can clock up to 4 GHz and what you get is a multitasking beast. The processing is faster than anything you’ve owned so far.
Unlike its contemporary laptops, this one does not heat up considerably. To make sure that happens, I suggest you keep it a bit elevated. The fans or vents at the back run full throttle to cool things down. Yes, they can get noisy, and yes if you angle the screen too far away, it might fiddle with the airflow.
I know that’s kind of a bummer.
On the bright side, this one is super portable. It is lightweight at 4.37 pounds. Also, the 15.6 inch IPS has anti-glare to keep your eyes from the pain of strobing lights.
Although HP touts that its battery life is near 12 hours, you should only expect a run time of 3 hours at AAA settings. To get it running for 12 hours, you’d have to tune down its performance to “green mode”, which is just a plain joke.
Just like I said at the start, the laptop has its own limits when it comes to specs, but working with them is not a pain at all. However, what truly disappoints me in the face of everything that’s good about it is its low storage. I mean 512 GBs, really? Some games take up nearly 200 GBs, HP.
MSI is a known name among gamers and the all-new MSI GL65 has everything to not disappoint users at all. From design to the spec sheet, you’d find it a better alternative. I’ve found a balance between them, to be honest – something absent in most units. They either all show no performance or performance beasts with little to no aesthetics.
About aesthetics, the laptop is a beauty in its metallic framework. The build is solid as most of the MSI laptops. On top of that, this one has thin bezels, which we didn’t see in the previous models mentioned above. From the design point of view, you’d get a premium feel like no other.
Coming towards the real deal, its performance does not lag behind. Play the Sims 4, Varolent, GTA V, and the likes without hesitation. After all, it has the same graphics card as the previous ones – the NVIDIA GTX 1650. You’d get good fps and that’s for sure. However, high-end games like Tomb Raider do not fare well with this one.
Besides gaming, the laptop can handle multitasking pretty easily, thanks to its 10 Gen Intel Core i5-1030H CPU. It should allow you to work seamlessly on high processing programs like Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, GIS, or the sort.
Its 15.6-inch display is a treat to the eyes. A lavish 1080p resolution is enough for an intensive or immersive gaming experience. I loved it to be honest.
The keyboard on this one is responsive but I felt it wasn’t great for me. I have my preferences after all. But what I can confirm is a comfortable key height.
The newest MSI gaming laptop gives you the freedom to connect to monitors with the help of an HDMI port. It has the usual USB 3.2 ports with a Type-C to give you all-around connectivity. But what really takes the edge is its low-latency wireless connections. You’d want that, wouldn’t you?
Enough of sulking over poor audio of previous laptops, the Evoo laptop has THX Spatial Audio to give you the kind of sound you wish to hear. But what about its performance? Read on to know.
Like most of the laptops in this price range, the Evoo also packs a GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card coupled with Intel Core i5-10300H. The performance is, thus, commendable. You can play Warzone with pretty good fps – almost as if you’re playing on an X Box.
This performance is even upgradable because you get a vacant slot beside neatly snuggled 8 gigs of Hynix RAM. Mind you, Hynix has its own fan base. Some of the users complain about lag in performance because of the single RAM but as I said, it’s upgradeable.
However, the 256 GB of hard drive brings its overall storage capacity to mockery. Like HP’s model above, this one too would require an external hard drive if you’re to play games that are 200 gigs, for example. This hard drive is energy efficient but maybe that’s what makes it rather slow to perform when you’re copying things.
Besides all this, the laptop is all plastic. Not a cheap one, I should tell you. It has a premium feel that shouts of its premium origins.
Its keyboard is one of the things I liked the most. It’s backlit, comfortable, and responsive. The touchpad loses its mind sometimes for an inexplicable reason but it may be just a problem with my unit.
Another thing I’d like to add to things I like about this laptop is just how cool it is. It does not overheat even at the highest settings. For a gamer that could be something to look after.
Personally speaking, this machine from Evoo provides a good gaming experience if not great. But when it comes to office work as a graphic designer, you might wanna consider this one without hesitation.
The Acer Aspire 5 is a humble addition to this list of best gaming laptops under 900. It’s sleek, contemporary, and performs blazingly fast for light to moderate office work. What about gaming? On a low setting. Don’t expect it to run high-end games without compromising on a lot of things.
But why buy it then? For what it lacks in gaming specs, it makes up for in the rest of the departments.
One, you’d love its screen. It’s an absolute delight. The blacks are actually black and the viewing angles are amazing for an IPS display. We may want to thank its AMD Radeon Vega 3 mobile graphics for it. For those who want to binge series, this is for you. The quality rivals your gaming monitors such as that of AOC.
Next, the stock storage capacity comes in the form of a 128GB NVMe SSD and a 4GB DDR4 stick. Now, these work great for multitasking, but if you want to upgrade to reap the benefits of a $700 laptop from a $300 unit, you might want to upgrade. Just turn the screws, which are done effortlessly, and add a hard drive plus a memory stick.
Voila! You’re done.
Its keyboard is quite comfortable for light to moderate typing. It’s backlit and goes out when idle, which kind of annoyed me for the least. Finding the right keyword to hit to bring back the light when you’re working begets some problems.
The touchpad is just normal like the rest of the laptops. It is sensitive for one only when it wants to be. You can work with it without pulling your hair, though.
Please do not expect anything extraordinary from its speakers at this price range. They are weak. But Bluetooth connectivity among the rest of the options works great.
Since you won’t be running heavy games with this one, you can expect the battery life to go for about 7 hours or more.
So, all in all, this laptop is a beast for normal graphic-designing tasks. Possibly, that’s why I added this one to the list. I just couldn’t resist how well built, portable, and reliable it is. Students, do take a note.
For gaming, you might wanna buy from the machines listed above it.
Buying the right laptop for gaming means researching for tens of hours. It’s always about finding the right balance between the specs and the price.
The laptops I’ve listed above (except for the last one) are true to their performances. They mostly have the GTX 1650 because you can get that for the price. I cannot state anymore how well-suited this graphics card at this price.
Enjoy gaming. Good luck.
