The Best Laptop for Watching Movies, Youtube, and Netflix in 2022

When you look for the best laptop for watching movies, you don’t necessarily want a super machine. Asking for that is over expecting, and not to mention, how much money you’d have to spend.

So, you’d have to find a balance in the features of the laptop for streaming or watching movies. However, at the same time, you cannot bet on a laptop with mediocre specs because that will beat the whole motive of looking for a dedicated machine.

There are tons of good laptops out there and you could easily bump into a seemingly well-performing unit that ends up being a joke. After all, relying on online comments or reviews is a shady business in this era. I’m here to save you from that, though.

I have curated the following list to help you choose the laptop that will give you an immersive viewing experience. You might think it’s just the LCD or the screen that matters when that’s only partially true. There are a lot of factors to look out for.

Having said that, here is the list of laptops I was talking about.

The List of 10 Best Laptops for Streaming/Watching Movies

1: Lenovo Flex 5 – The Best Laptop for Watching Movies

The Lenovo Flex 5 is a two in one convertible laptop that possesses speed, performance, and of course, a great screen. When you’re tired of looking at your mobile screen for hours, this one proves to be a better alternative. Not just a bigger screen, but the convenience of flipping the screen over to set the laptop in “tent” or “tablet” mode frees your hands.

Screen

The 14” FHD display houses great color saturation. That means you can watch HDR content in its true RGB ratio without compromising on the quality at all. The FHD panel reserves all its aspect ratios — something most movie watchers would love to have as it becomes utterly frustrating when your movie is cropped to a ridiculously low ratio.

GPU

The laptop has AMD Ryzen 5 4500U processor. This Vega architecture comes with integrated AMD graphics that sit at par with the Intel graphics and sometimes even exceed it. For example, it can run games at 1080p and even 4K (although at low fps). Even on Direct X 12, the GPU does not disappoint as it gives no fps loss compared to any PC with Core i5/i7 architecture. To sum up, if the processor can run graphics-intensive games as such, imagine how well it will play movies.

RAM

The RAM here exceeds our 8GB threshold. You get a 16GB DDR4 RAM that is known to outperform non-DDR4 RAMs of the post by a mile. Expect frame fluidity and blazing fast multitasking.

SSD

The Lenovo Flex 5 has a storage capacity of 256GB and that, too, is in SSD architecture. You won’t have problems filling it up to the brim because the SSD is known to write data at a faster rate.

Battery

Lenovo has managed to make the laptop as portable as it seems. With a battery life of 10 hours, take it anywhere you want to watch movies with your friends or colleagues.

Portability

Like I said above, this laptop is quite portable. It only has 3.63 lbs, and that shouldn’t break your arm when you’re carrying it around.

Features

  • AMD Ryzen 5 4500U Processor
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM
  • 256GB SSD
  • AMD Ryzen Integrated Graphics
  • Touch Screen with Stylus
  • 10-hour battery timing

Pros

  • Touchscreen for quick movie seeking
  • Blazing fast processor and graphics
  • True colors
  • Convenient

Cons

  • Small
  • Expensive

2: Acer Nitro 5 – Best Laptop for Streaming Movies

Ready to experience cinema-grade movie watching? Then buy the Acer Nitro 5. It isn’t too portable but it is every bit of a behemoth for streamers.

Screen

This time, you get a 17.3” FHD screen with a twist – the 144Hz refresh rate. What does that mean? It means you’d be able to watch 4K or even 8K movies with crisp clarity, not to mention, fluid frames. Since it’s an IPS panel, its brightness rivals that of daylight. In the end, it wins, which means you can even watch or stream content outside.

GPU

The GPU slapped onto this unit is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti. It is capable of playing most modern titles at a considerably good fps at 1080p. However, the moment you switch to 4K, its limitations start showing themselves. Worry not, however, because your movies don’t warrant a lot of power.

RAM

Here, too, you get 16GB DDR4 RAM. Combine this with the performance of the graphics card and the Intel Core i7 11th generation sitting in the core, you get a snappy laptop more than capable of running just movies.

SSD

Know that you’ll get a fair share of specs when it comes to buying this laptop. I mean a 1TB SSD storage is certainly more than you need to store all your games, files, and whatnot.

Battery

Since it is a gaming laptop at its best, expecting a lot of battery juice would be unfair. At the same time, watching movies does not cause it to wire at its full throttle. Therefore, you should expect at least 8 hours of battery for that.

Portability

As I said, the laptop isn’t very portable with a weight of 5.95 lbs.

Features

  • Intel Core i7-11800H CPU
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050Ti Laptop
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM
  • 1TB SSD
  • 144Hz 17.3” FHD display
  • RGB Keyboard
  • 8 hours battery life

Pros

  • Strong and sturdy
  • Beautiful high refresh rate screen
  • In-depth colors
  • Good speakers

Cons

  • Heavy

3: Apple MacBook Air – Best Laptop for Movies

Who could do it better when it comes to performance and visuals than Apple? Yes, its products are expensive, but they give the value like no other. The same is the case with Apple MacBook Air.

Screen

What a screen this laptop has! Contoured by minimal bezels, the 13.3-inch retina display shows colors true to their nature. It offers 25% more colors than the normal sRGB. A sharp pixel density shows the crisp text, so expect brilliant subtitles, and its True Tone Technology offers ambient white balance. The moment you play something, you’d feel the screen melting into your surroundings to give you a timeless experience.

GPU

This laptop comes with the latest and the most efficient chip Apple has made to date — the M1 chip. With its 8 cores, it can multitask like a boss, giving you an all-around performance for playing, watching, and working. The graphics are integrated but solid to their core. Not a single 4K or 8K movie would go uninteresting.

RAM

On top of all that, you get 8GB RAM that assists the M1 chip very well — but not good enough. I wish the RAM was more, but hey, for movies, it does the job.

SSD

Gladly, you get 256GB of storage to complete your dazzling experience. I just couldn’t help but marvel at owning an Apple MacBook with this much storage and performance prowess back when my son and I were avid movie watchers.

Battery

The advertised battery life is close to 18 hours but that’s true only when you’re doing minimum tasks like streaming content.

Portability

One of the reasons why we liked this laptop was the convenience with which we could carry it around everywhere. Since it weighs only 2.8 pounds, my son loved hopping from one corner to another while the movie would still go on.

It is the best laptop for watching movies I have ever used. I have personally used it for years and am satisfied with the quality of its display and other specification.

Features

  • Apple M1 Chip
  • 13” Retina Display with a wide color gamut
  • 8GB DDR4 RAM
  • 256GB SSD storage
  • Backlit keyboard
  • Touch ID
  • 15+ hours of battery life

Pros

  • Secure and reliable
  • Eye-comforting screen
  • Thin chassis
  • No heat whatsoever

Cons

  • Expensive

4: HP Pavilion x360 – Best Laptop for Watching YouTube

The HP Pavilion X360 is another convertible laptop with features that makes it the best laptop for watching YouTube or streaming movies. The hinges are flawlessly designed for smooth transitions between different modes, the audio is a treat to the ears (I didn’t use headphones with this one), but the real deal is its 14” thin bezels screen.

The Screen

Housing a 14” touchscreen with an IPS panel, the laptop truly depicts vibrant colors. I bet it has the most vibrant colors than that of its contemporaries. Plus its touch, so you’d have a mobile-like experience with the portability you want.

GPU

Intel’s Iris Xe is a staple card with 11th gen PCs and typically, if you’re buying a light and mid-range laptop, chances of getting this are more. But that’s not a bad thing at all as this GPU has surpassed the likes of Intel UHD in breaking the 1000 benchmark of Fire Strike performed by 3DMark. It was able to get up to 4,000, which says about its capacity as a graphics processor. For an avid movie watcher like yourself and me, this means efficient 2D or 3D content streaming.

RAM

Thankfully, the laptop does not come with a low RAM. 8GB DDR4 is more than enough to go with the graphic processor and the Intel Core i5 11th Gen CPU.

SSD

You get 256GB SSD storage to store your movies, transfer them from one place to another at a faster speed.

Battery

The 10 hours of battery life make it an exceptional case for portability. With it, you can work, play, and study without taking a charging break at all. Besides, who doesn’t love getting away from the socket every once and a while?

Portability

An extended battery on a 3.5 lbs laptop means a whole day of non-stop music and video streaming, playing, and working.

Features

  • Intel Core i5-1135G7 CPU
  • Intel Iris Xe graphics
  • 8GB RAM
  • 256GB SSD
  • 14” Touchscreen IPS Display
  • 10 hours long battery

Pros

  • Immaculate design
  • Sturdy chassis
  • Great viewing experience
  • All sorts of modern connectivity options

Cons

  • The keyboard isn’t backlit

5: Acer Aspire 5 – Best Laptop For Watching Netflix

The Acer Aspire 5 isn’t convertible but the looks of it can beat any two in one laptop. It has a bigger screen, aluminum top cover, powerful sound, and not to mention, color-intensive pixels.

Screen

Harboring a 15.6” screen in an aluminum case, the laptop offers a pretty satisfying bang for your buck. The colors are vivid but the brightness could be more to help you watch Netflix outdoors — if that’s what people do these days, I mean. Thanks to the Acer Color Intelligence, the IPS display is wired to mimic the colors present in the natural setting around you. There’s even BlueLightShield to protect your eyes from blue light if you binge a certain Netflix series.

GPU

You’d find Intel UHD Graphics in this one. Yes, the integrated graphics are average — even slower than the Iris Xe. However, it is still able to run some popular games with fewer hiccups. So to say, it will do fine when it comes to Netflix.

RAM

An 8GB DDR4 RAM works at the back of this whole thing. With the Intel Core i5 8th gen CPU, the RAM plays its part solidly. Play Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, or YouTube in tabs with tens of other things right beside them and the RAM+CPU system wouldn’t budge.

SSD

The 256GB SSD offers a considerably huge size to store your files. Thankfully, Acer does not come with a lot of bloatware, so you should have all the space for yourself. Even if it does, worry not because deleting them won’t degrade the performance even by an inch.

Battery

It’s a small unit but it does house a longer battery life. You get 9.5 hours of battery juice to get you through your desired series. I remember how I used to just play one till the end only to realize later that I’ve to charge this thing.

Portability

The whole unit weighs around 3.97 lbs — a weight that does not put any strain on your hands even if you hold it in the air and watch things standing.

Features

  • Intel Core i5-8265U CPU
  • 8GB DDR4 RAM
  • 256GB SSD
  • 15.6” FHD Screen with Acer Color Intelligence
  • Fingerprint reader
  • 9.5 hours of battery life

Pros

  • Lightweight and smart
  • Acer color tech to mimic natural colors
  • Dual speakers that are pretty loud
  • Easy set-up

Cons

  • No backlit keyboard
  • The screen could have been a tad bit bright

6: ASUS VivoBook 15 – Best Budget Laptop for Movies and Music

All the laptops have flat screens but the ASUS VivoBook 15 looks like it’s been carefully flattened further. That could be because of its shape and size.

Screen

As I said, the 15.6” FHD display is flat. The bezels are needle-thin to give your movies all the real estate they need. Since it’s an IPS display, the colors are bright. Add the 178-degree viewing angle to it and what you get is a spectacular viewing experience.

GPU

The laptop runs with the AMD Ryzen 7 CPU. This series comes with the Radeon Vega 10 Graphics, which offers an improvement over the Vega 8 and Intel UHD graphics in terms of playing games and movies smoothly.

RAM

Although I had no problem in playing any type of content on this laptop when I owned it, I do wish the RAM was 16GB at least. Nonetheless, you can upgrade it if you like more power. Not that it’s needed for light work and play.

SSD

It takes an edge in terms of the storage offered. A 512GB SSD gives you plenty of room to store files.

Battery

The laptop is truly a powerhouse and that explains why the battery life is only 5 hours under usual use. But worry not as you can always charge it conveniently. The power brick is small and by the time you know it, the charge will be 100%. A little break from the screen is all you need sometimes.

Portability

With only 3.54 lbs weight, the ASUS VivoBook 15 takes an edge when it comes to carrying it around, tossing it in your bag, or holding it when standing.

Features

  • AMD Ryzen 7-3700U CPU
  • AMD Radeon Vega 10 Graphics
  • 8GB DDR4 RAM
  • 512GB SSD
  • 15.6” FHD Screen
  • 5 Hours battery

Pros

  • Solid and durable
  • Bezel-less enormous screen with wide angles
  • Backlit keyboard
  • Reliable speakers

Cons

  • Annoying fan
  • Low battery life

7: Lenovo Legion 5 – Best Laptop for Gaming and Watching Movies

For the gamer and movie love inside you, the Lenovo Legion 5 will do what other laptops cannot. It will provide you with stunning graphics and performance, not to mention durability and reliability for years to come.

Screen

There’s a bit of a change here. The 15.6” FHD screen comes with a 165Hz refresh rate, a 3ms response rate, and a whopping 100% sRGB colors. The bezels are really thin to give you a full view. So when you’re gaming or watching a movie, you’d always love the experience as I did.

GPU

The laptop runs with AMD Ryzen 7-5800H but it doesn’t have an integrated graphics card. Thankfully, you get a supercharged NVIDIA GeForce RTC 3050Ti. This card is capable of running games at a decent fps in 1080p. So, expect it to play movies in all their grandeur.

RAM

You get 16GB RAM and that too, DDR4. The performance in terms of multitasking jumps up when such a huge RAM is at play.

SSD

Here too, you get more than your share of SSD. The 512GB SSD will get you through many games and files until it says “storage full”.

Battery

The CPU is mobile, but the NVIDIA card takes a toll on the battery life, thus, reducing it to 5 hours at most.

Portability

With a weight of 5.29 lbs, you might not want to use it as your portable unit, although it’s not impossible entirely. The huge card, metal chassis plus all of the rest of its specs account for the weight.

Features

  • AMD Ryzen 7 5800H CPU
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti GPU
  • 16GB RAM
  • 512GB SSD
  • 15.6” FHD display
  • Backlit keyboard
  • 5 hours battery life

Pros

  • Sturdy
  • Nicest screen
  • GPU is capable of playing a lot of games
  • Bang for the buck

Cons

  • Heavy
  • Poor battery

8: ASUS ZenBook 15

Another ASUS addition to this list, the ASUS Zenbook 15 has all the shenanigans to be your favorite laptop not just for movies but everything.

Screen

The real deal here is the 15.6” FHD panel with seriously thin bezels. The screen feels like one huge glass ready to take you on a journey to other worlds in the movies. The viewing angles provide a good range even from the sides, which means even your friends and family would enjoy watching things with you.

There’s also a small screen called the ScreenPad to help you tackle other tasks without closing the movie. It works as if it’s a second screen, which frankly it is.

GPU

Complementing the Intel Core i7-10510U, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX1650 renders all that graphic intensive activity. You can play important game titles on it. However, the fps won’t be out of the roof. For 3D, 4K, or 8K content, it will do just fine.

RAM

All that blazing performance is also because of the 16GB RAM. It tackles tasks without visible hiccups. Open a hundred chrome tabs with content playing in the background and the laptop wouldn’t complain.

SSD

The storage is commendable also. I had no problem carrying a plethora of movies and games along with my files on the laptop.

Battery

To power all that performance, the battery is a bit small, I believe. Only 5.5 hours of battery life suffices, but I think it’s not enough when you’re gaming.

Portability

I have to give it to the fact that the laptop is quite light. 3.6 lbs do not hurt at all. So, toss it in your bag and carry it anywhere you like. The small battery life will take some toll on the portability, but that’s something we can all work with.

Features

  • Intel Core i7-10510U CPU
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 GPU
  • 16GB RAM
  • 512GB SSD
  • 15.6” FHD NanoEdge Screen
  • ScreenPad 2.0
  • 5.5 Hours of battery life

Pros

  • Beautiful metal design
  • Lightweight
  • Excellent screen and audio
  • An amazing small screen on the TouchPad

Cons

  • Low battery life
  • Keyboard offset to the left because of Numpad

9: HP 15 – Favorite Movies Laptop with HD IPS Display

The HP 15 has a very good trick up its sleeves for movie loves — the anti-glare screen.

Screen

The 15.6” high-definition IPS display makes for a good case to make this laptop your favorite one for videos and work. It is meant for extended use as it seems from its anti-glare property. What this means is that the screen has the quality to reject all the reflections from its surface, thus, allowing you to watch without interruption even in a bright light setting. Not to mention, the micro-edge takes the experience to a whole new level.

GPU

No problem in the GPU department as the laptop comes with Intel Iris Xe. Yes, it’s not the best out there but it surely renders movies of all sorts without a loss whatsoever. Besides, you should be partly thankful that it doesn’t have a dedicated card because it would have been chunkier.

RAM

The 8GB RAM does great when it comes to multi-tasking. So, watch your movies, surf the web, talk to people on social media and prepare your presentations all at the same time without a problem.

SSD

Come to think of it, the 256GB is just okay. I wish it was 512GB because of the caliber of the laptop but we can do with it, can’t we?

Battery

Thankfully, the battery does well with this unit. You get 7 hours of juice, enough to see you through a season.

Portability

The laptop is portable with a 3.75 lbs weight. Its form factor is divided evenly so the laptop doesn’t feel lopsided at all.

Features

  • Intel Core i5-1135G7 CPU
  • Intel Iris Xe GPU
  • 8GB RAM
  • 256GB SSD
  • 15.6” HD IPS Panel
  • 7 hours battery life

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Anti-glare screen
  • Faster Wi-Fi
  • Sleek design

Cons

  • No backlit keyboard

10: Flagship Acer Chromebook – Best Chromebook for Movies

This is the only Chromebook on this list and what a laptop for movies it is. The OS might be new for you but it’s like using an Android phone essentially. So, don’t worry there. All your apps will work smoothly.

Screen

At this price, you’re getting a 15.6” FHD screen and that, too, with anti-glare functionality. The bezels to the left and right are thinner than that of the top and bottom. They cover an IPS LED panel, which saves a lot of the battery and that should explain why the battery lasts a lot. The colors could have been more vivid but considering its price, they are not bad at all.

GPU

Here you get Intel UHD Graphics. That will let you play light games but better graphics-intensive software. When it comes to movies, you will experience no problems at all.

RAM

The RAM is only 4GB. Now don’t worry because the Chrome OS is very light and this 4GB RAM works like 8GB on a Core i5 or i7. The CPU here is also not power intensive. The LED touchscreen consumes low power as well.

SSD

Here’s where the laptop lags big time. You get only 64GB of space and that’s not an SSD but an eMMC. The speed is relatively slow. However, as I said, all the rest of the features do not weigh in on the RAM or the hard drive to slow your processes.

Battery life

This Chromebook lasts a whopping 12 hours and even more. You should guess that here, too, the low power consumption plays its part.

Portability

Astoundingly, the weight is 4.19 lbs. I don’t understand how. Possibly because of the ASUS parts. But it’s nothing you can’t handle.

Features

  • Intel Celeron N4020 CPU
  • Intel UHD Graphics
  • 4GB RAM
  • 64GB storage
  • 15.6” FHD screen
  • 12+ battery life

Pros

  • Touchscreen at this price
  • Power saving screen and CPU
  • Better LED than contemporaries
  • Great form factor

Cons

  • No backlit keyboard
  • Heavy for its specs

Best Laptop for Watching Movies – Needs and Expectations – Buyer’s Help Guide

Screen

The first thing to look for is the display. To see colors in their true sense, you’d want a well-built high definition IPS LCD. If it’s 4K, well and good, but if it’s not, know that there are manufacturers that still can churn out a decent display.

Graphics processor unit

What does a GPU have to do with movies? Everything. Re-read the name and you’d see why it is important. It processes graphics to render smooth frames per second for the movie to feel more fluid and immersive. That is particularly true for 3D or 4K movies that require more power to run. So, to get there, there should be a dedicated GPU. However, the new laptops come with integrated ones that are equally effective.

RAM

RAM runs tasks. I’d prefer that your laptop should have at least 8 GB of RAM for it to function at its optimal speed. Anything above it is most welcome but below it is not. That’s because normally we tend to run many things at a time even when we’ve got a movie going on, for example, a tab of Facebook.

SSD

Hard drives are a thing of the past. Now we have SSDs, which are far superior. They transfer your files faster and also help in their faster loading. Although the streaming services have plenty of content to watch, now and then you’d want to download a title because it’s not available on those services. I’d prefer your laptop to have at least a 256GB SSD because the movies you’d download will have a size ranging from 1GB to 8GB, depending on the quality.

Battery

The battery of a laptop plays a role in giving you the freedom to move around. If it’s your favorite corner where you wanna watch the movie or you’re tired of sitting on your couch and you want to move to another place, having a good battery pays off. My recommendation is at least 5 to 6 hours of battery.

Portability

Even if the laptop has 6 hours of battery but is heavy, you’d want to reconsider it. Look for any good laptop below 5 pounds to be able to carry it around without hurting yourself.

Conclusion

Watching videos or other content on your laptop lets you privately enjoy them. But to steer away from TVs and tablets shouldn’t mean downgrading your expectations and settling for mediocre screens. There are laptops out there that have superb screens to let you watch/stream movies even on the go. Besides, it’s always good to switch from your mobile to a bigger screen.

Speaking of which, I’ve listed all the best laptops for watching movies above. Look at what you’re willing to spend and choose your laptop. No matter which one, the list won’t disappoint you.
