So you just installed various software like media players and antivirus and other display drivers, however, after hours of usage you feel like your newly bought Lenovo laptop is acting up a little bit and you feeling lagging and freezing in your cursor and then your laptop restarts itself without any warning on its blue screen
After noticing that the problem persists, you have no way to troubleshoot the problem but to enter the safe mode to diagnose the problem, but you ask yourself how would I boot in safe mode? That sounds too tech-savvy for me!
Well, worry not, because this article will guide you on how to boot your Lenovo laptop in safe mode, but before we proceed let me tell you that there are not just more than a way to enter safe mode but also more than one type.
What Is A Safe Mode And What Are Its Types?
Well, to answer your question, a safe mode is much like a recovery mode or flash mode where it shows you the stock format of your windows operating system without all the nifty and flashy software installed by you.
The whole point of safe mode is to determine the underlying issue that can’t be otherwise tracked by you in standard operating system usage.
Typically, there are three types of safe mode:
- Safe mode (standard)
- Safe mode with networking
- Safe mode with command prompt
Safe Mode (Standard):
This is the most basic version of safe mode and has all drivers and other features such as themes and background wallpaper stripped off. However, you can still access most of your files and lurk around in your computer and check for potential issues that you might fix.
Moreover, you can also use the windows defender software to scan for potential threats like malware or viruses and remove them which you wouldn’t be able to do in normal windows mode.
Safe Mode With Networking:
As the name implies, this mode has one of the basic features just like the standard safe mode, however, you also get internet capabilities and LAN network drivers loaded up for you.
This mode is used so you can access other server clients, or computers or surf the internet for quick guides to troubleshoot the problems you might have on your Lenovo laptop.
Pro Tip: Please be advised that although this mode allows you to diagnose your laptop, you are still vulnerable to other threats and attacks over the internet which might cause harm to your laptop because of the lack of firewall protections and other countermeasures.
Safe Mode With Command Prompt:
This is the most advanced and powerful mode of safe mode because it is only loaded with an interface of command prompt where you can execute commands to operate the windows.
It is also called an expert mode or safe mode version as it is only usable by advanced users who have ample knowledge of commands that can be executed in command prompt and there are no files, drivers, or any network capability available in the form of interface to work with.
How To Boot Lenovo Laptop In Safe Mode:
Although, the brand of the laptop doesn’t really change how you boot into your safe mode because it only depends on the version of the operating system you are using such as Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7,8.1, 10.
There are five ways to boot into safe mode;
- By pressing F8 on the loading screen
- Through MSconfig method
- Shift+ Restart method
- From advanced settings method
- Sign In screen method
This is the most basic method, as all you have to do is press the F8 key on the keyboard while the windows loading screen pops up, make sure you are as fast as possible otherwise you are going to miss the opportunity to boot into safe mode and will have to restart your laptop again.
In Windows XP, Vista, 7, the user interface is in the form of black white, while for windows 8.1 and 10, the user interface has a bluish color background with user-friendly font and interface.
Through The Msconfig Method:
For this method, you need to have your operating system booted up to initiate, all you have to do is press “Windows key + R” on the keyboard and then type in “MSCONFIG” in the search bar.
This will take you to another window where plenty of booting options are present, all you have to do is hover your mouse to the bootup menu and click the type of safe mode you require and restart your laptop.
Shift Restart Method:
This mode is also similar to the previous mode mentioned above where you have to boot up your operating system to initiate. All you have to do is press the “Windows + X” key and then hold the Shift key and click on the restart button of the windows.
This will restart your operating system into a new menu where you can choose from different types of safe modes.
Advanced Settings Method:
Head to the settings by going to the control panel and clicking on advanced settings, which will take you to update settings, where you can click on advanced startup and click on the restart button to boot up in safe mode.
Sign In Method:
Right when you have to put your credentials, tap on the power button located on the lower right of the screen while holding the shift button down, as it will take you to the safe mode options.
This method is similar to the Shift restart method mentioned above.
